We have finally autumn and therefor also #InkTober time. If you don't know what it is please check it out here but basically it's about learning to be consistent with your art and improving your artworks throughout the month of october. I never participated before but I couldn't (and shouldn't) resist any longer. To start it all of here a drawing I did a while back in my sketchbook which I inked traditionally and later on coloured digitally. From now on forth every one will be directly created for InkTober and therefor completely new and shiny :) |
If you don't wanna miss any new drawings please head over to my instagram account and follow me there. My plan for October is to post sketches daily to improve my consistency & also create more personal pieces next to my client work.

Hello my friends,
one of the games I worked on last year just got announced and I'm very excited for them! It was a pleasure to work with the team behind State of Extinction and see their vision come to life. My responsibility was the design and creation of the game interface including the icons displayed as well as the character preview in the equipment window. If this game sparks your interest please head over to Steam Greenlight and vote for it so that they can have one of the best platforms out their to distribute their game. Many thanks! Sandra It's crazy how fast time goes by sometimes. I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and are looking forward to a new and exciting year! I definitively am. I have a lot of ideas I want to transform into real projects and develop myself further as an artist. I will keep you updated as it goes along.
Also I will update my portfolio in the coming month with some of the assets I created last year! A lot is still under NDA but I managed to get the rights to publish a few pieces at least. For now have a look at a business card design I did for a games company called "Nuts". I'm sure you see the relation between the name and the design. The nuts represent the company owners with their specific features. It seems later on they want a nut for everyone of their employees to let them stand out in their forum, so that users instantly know when they are getting answers from the game creators. Hi guys!
Yesterday was one of the most amazing days for me! <3 I really love drawing female characters and I have quite the hang of drawing the body. But as soon as it gets to faces I never felt comfortably and they just looked flat - missing their volume/ 3d form. That said I felt really lucky when I met a good friend and fellow artist of mine yesterday to sketch together. She looked at my drawings and drew over them to show me what they lack. And it's so incredible with what kind of small changes you can turn everything around! :) That said I'm really proud of the sketchbook page of mine I'm showing you today! :3 PS: The single eyes drawn in pencil - not the colored ones - are the ones she corrected for me again and again until I got the hang of it. And now there is nothing I rather do then draw colorful faces all day long! Thanks Nadin for being such an awesome friend & artist and for helping me out so incredibly! Hi guys!
Friends of mine are getting married in September and they asked me to design their wedding invitation, which I absolutely loved to do <3 Attached you can not only find the final piece, but also the in-between steps I took to get there. I also will include photographs (with blurred text out of privacy reasons) of the actual printed invitation so that you can see how it looked in the end! Hi guys!
Currently I have a lot of client work going on. That said I don't spend much time on personal work at the moment. So for now here my final character designs as well as animations for Beromath Entertainment. You can see both the walk and the dead animation at once. Enjoy! Hi guys! I'm quite proud of myself right now. I always plan to participate in contests, but I never get over the state of the initial concepts. This can be out if different reasons. Something else came up, no time, being intimidated by the concurrence or I just can't get it to look like I want it to look. Which is stupid! Because at least for me, contests aren't about winning. They are about tackling an issue, I normally won't, getting out of my comfort zone and learning a heck while doing so! That said, I'm totally happy that I actually participated in a contest and went through with it until the very end. Here you can see my entry for the Valentins Contest from ArmorGames. Task was to create an avatar (100x100 pixels) to this topic. I personally really like how it came out! Story: I'm sure everyone realizes that Amor himself must be doing this job for ages already. That said he is quite sick of taking care of all the high expectations people have on Valentins Day every year. So he started to think like a business man. Now he has a lot of employes which do the work for him. How does he pay them you ask? Easy. Companies like ArmorGames want to spread some love and give back to the community. That said they asked Amor to send someone appropriate for the job. Someone who gives a hint, who we have to thank for all the love ;) PS: I hope the little helper manages to give all the love before he drops out of the sky of exhaustion. Based on a simple idea: Amor + Armor = A(r)mor I was really happy, when some of the admins thanked me for taking part and also published my work through the official ArmorGames-Twitter-Account. Not to mention that they are following my twitter account now <3 Enough rambling. Here the final entry as well as the 500x500 work size I created this little fellow on! Hi guys!
I decided to work on a personal project, because I didn't do so in quite a while. The challenge I put myself up to, is to paint a picture in an art style I really like and try to figure out what makes this style special and how I can apply it to my own art. Until now I managed to create my line art as well as establish the base colors for my piece. Since a couple of months this is my favourite way to work. Do the sketches, concepts, etc. Those can be just lines, or with flat colors or also already shaded. Doesn't really matter. Then get the line art down. And afterwards establish the base colors. Which I then use as a base to get my shadows and highlights on. That way all the shapes are already separated and it's easy to work from there. Oh and this was also an exercise to see how far I can get from imagination. I only looked at reference for the torso and later on photographed my own hands for reference as well.
In the result there is only one small sketchbook page I'm able to show you. But this was really important for me. And I will have time for drawing & painting again soon. I promise! All the best, Sandra
