In the evenings I doodled a little bit. Like the little creature, you can see here :) See yah next week!
After I realized last week I need a lot more anatomical knowledge I started to study the human head with the help of Bammes. I also did some paintings from real life, trying to pic the right colors and using some custom brushes to let the Wacom pen holder look more realistic. It's much harder to paint from real life than from photographs, but it really pays off. In the evenings I doodled a little bit. Like the little creature, you can see here :) See yah next week!

Hi guys, this week I thought about doing a whole painting for once and I used a really old sketch of mine for it. From 2004 I guess :D I started in values, so that I can tackle one problem after another and don't have to worry about color and saturation right from the beginning. After the first approach, I postet it in the critique section of conceptart.org to get some feedback, to help me along. Besides from lack of anatomical knowledge they told me to give here are pose with would support her twisted character more and I did some thumbnails for that. But I also realised that I'm not ready yet, so I will get back to it later and study more anatomy and gestures first. Also I did a lot of loomis and perspective studies. Some of them you can also see here :) To realize where your problem spots are and to tackle them brings you also forward. So on to the next week! So this week I tried to take some of my sketches a little further and paint them in grayscale. I didn't use any references. I just wanted to see how far I can get^^ Afterwards I did a photo study of one of my best friends. Took me about two hours. She really liked it :) Besides of that I did a lot of Bridgeman studies this week and also painted some shapes of animals I found on the national geographic website. Played around with some custom brushes while doing these. I really like my whale painting. I think I achieved a lot of volume and good values. And that all from my imagination only. Very productive week :D |
